Meaning of Om Namah Shivaya Mantra
In Shaivism, Namah Shivaya is considered as “Pancha Bodha Tatva” of Lord Shiva. Pancha tatva is the universal five elements that include the whole earth they are regarded as following and his universal oneness of five elements :
- “Na” represents earth
- “Ma” represents water
- “Si” represents Fire
- ” Va” represents air
- “Ya” sound represents sky or ether
“OM” is reagared as whole universe
The universal meaning of Om Namah Shivaya mantra is regarded holy chant which can be repeated verbally as well as mentally
In chanting rule, it is mostly repeated 108 times a day along with counting the “rudraksha” beads. This type of chanting is also called as “JAPA Yoga”. This can be freely sung and chanted by everyone, and this is regarded as powerful when given by elder and gurus.
In the same way, the mantra is a deep salutation to Shiva, as it roughly meant that “I bow to Shiva” in English. The mantra is often used to meditate on him and with the boundless energies, and also to extol his great deeds to the mankind
